Since its debut in the 50's silly putty has sold more than 300 million units and is one of the greatest toys of the 1950's ever invented.
In 45 a man by the name of Richard James who was actually a naval engineer stumbled across an invention that would be the pinnacle of toys of the 1950's and be in the hearts of american forever. Made of 87 feet of a flat wire coiled into a three inch circle the slinky was the invention and the slinky could not only walk down stairs but do a ton of other things. The classic slinky of the 50's has also sold over 300 million units and continues to sell today at a sick rate.
The Mr. Potato head had interchangeable facial expressions that could be changed to the persons liking and either make the mr potato head happy or sad, have no nose have no mouth etc. It was first patented in 1952 and was one of the first toys of the 1950's to ever be advertised on television. For the first 8 years of mr potato head, parents had to supply children with a real potato until a plastic potato body for the toys of the 1950's was introduced in 60.
